An update of Herts County Council's Sustainable Herts Strategy presented to this week's Environment Cabinet Panel reveals that this crucial strategy almost completely ignores the negative effect that the council's growth proposals will have on carbon emissions and biodiversity across Hertfordshire. The strategy also takes no account of the impact of goods and services that the council buys and says nothing about the impact of climate change on many of the council's services according to the Liberal Democrat County Councillors.

As many of her parliamentary colleagues resigned their government posts, Julie Marson hung in there as Dominic Raab's PPS. Now she has missed her chance.

It is depressingly predictable that Julie Marson continued to prop up Boris Johnson even after some of her Hertfordshire colleagues had resigned their government positions. Even her bestie, Priti Patel had told him to go. Mrs Marson needed to resign her government role before Johnson did but now she has missed her chance to do the right thing. She will be forever tainted with a seemingly unlimited tolerance for dishonesty.

Even her bestie, Priti Patel has now told him to go. Mrs Marson needs to resign as a PPS now or be forever tainted with a seemingly unlimited tolerance for dishonesty.

Each year, thousands of grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings and family friends step up to support a child who is unable to live with their birth parents. They deserve more support.

Yesterday, I introduced the Kinship Care Bill in the House of Commons. This bill calls on the Government to provide all friends and relatives who look after a child who cannot live with their birth parents with an allowance of at least £137 a week: the same level as for foster carers.

We have made incredible strides when it comes to protecting the fundamental human rights of those with LGBT+ identities. I am proud that our party has supported LGBT+ rights since its very conception.

Lib Dem Cllr Paul Zukowskyj today succeeded in getting the planners at County Hall to be more demanding and challenging to Boroughs and Districts around Hertfordshire on Biodiversity and the Climate Emergency.

At today's meeting of the Growth, Infrastructure and Planning Cabinet Panel, councillors were presented with a revised Strategic Planning Engagement Document, which outlines what County are expecting Boroughs and Districts to 'sign up to' when developing their Local Plans.

We saw last year what a huge boost it gave to the party getting two new excellent MPs elected in Parliamentary by-elections. It's good for their constituents and also good for the party's prospects across the whole country.

We've also seen this month how Conservative MPs have failed to do what our country needs - to remove Boris Johnson from 10 Downing Street.

Ed Davey intro

The Liberal Democrats are the only party fighting to keep Britain open, tolerant and united.

Open means open-hearted, open-minded, forward-looking, modern, green, internationalist and pro-European. We believe Britain is at its best when it is creative, innovative and outward-looking, comfortable in the fast-changing modern world and open to the opportunities and challenges of globalisation and the digital revolution.

Tolerant means diverse, compassionate and generous. We will always fight injustice and stand up for the underdog, the outsider, the individual, the minority and the vulnerable against the powerful.

United means we will always put the interests of the whole United Kingdom first. We reject the divisions in society, whether between young and old, urban and rural, leave and remain, or between regions and nations. We believe we are stronger - as communities, as a country and as a world - when we work together in our common interest.

If this sounds like you too, join us.

Tories deny Climate Emergency in East Herts

climate emergencyOn the 24th July, the Liberal Democrats put forward a motion to East Herts District Council to declare a Climate Emergency in East Herts.

The Conservative Party on the council heavily amended our motion, removing all reference to 'climate emergency' and replaced it with 'climate change' and removing many of the concrete actions. By this, the Tories at EHDC have declared that they do not consider climate change an emergency and showed that they do not understand or acknowledge the seriousness of the situation.

Please sign our petition to call on them to reconsider.
